Afterschool Benefits

Afterschool Benefits

When it comes to afterschool, more and more students are staying on site for activities but are still hungry. Our pre-packaged Meal BREAKS continue to be popular in programs across the country, often used as a “Super Snack” or “Enhanced Snack.” Did you know that by upgrading snacks to meals you can receive up to four times the reimbursement? The research supports it – reimbursements increase from $0.84 to $3.31 per meal. Instead of handing kids a snack and a juice, for example, give them a Meal BREAKS and milk. And the best part is that the same personnel that served the snack can serve the meal, so no additional labor is needed.

Helping Feed Hungry Children

The passage of the “Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act” in 2010 continues to have a significant impact on the lives of hungry children in our country. Improvements to certification and the additional funding will help reach more children and improve foods available to children.

The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) provides federal funds to afterschool programs to serve meals to children up to age 18 during the school year. The meals can be served at any time during the afterschool program, either at a traditional dinner time or immediately when the students arrive after school.

As part of our goal to help feed hungry children, E S Foods has taken its expertise in school foodservice and expanded it to community outreach efforts. E S Foods currently provides meals to schools, community centers, camps and many other youth organizations nationwide for afterschool and summer feeding programs.
