“School Lunch: Recipes for Success” is the theme for this year’s National School Lunch Week, October 9-13. This annual celebration recognizes the National School Lunch Program and the 30 million children it serves every day. The School Nutrition Association has a variety of useful resources on their website, including tools, tips sheets, and materials to help you promote your lunch program.
Among our “Recipes for Success” is to remind you about our most popular lunch items – Pinwheels and Mac & Cheese. Our Pinwheels put a new spin on lunch! These kid-friendly creations are easy to hold. Handmade with the corners turned up, each Pinwheel gives you a peek at the savory contents inside. We introduced our 2 newest varieties – Meatball and Veggie — at ANC this summer. Other varieties include Mozzarella Cheese, Philly Steak & Cheese, and Reduced Fat Turkey Pepperoni. Made with whole grain dough, each Pinwheel meets 2 meat and 2 grain requirements.
I can’t talk about lunch without mentioning our Mac & Cheese because it is really, really good! Just ask the kids – it continues to win taste tests – and has lower sodium than our competitors’ versions. Now is a good time to add these lunch gems to your school menu.
