To encourage more families to take advantage of the healthy choices available with school breakfast, school districts across the country will celebrate National School Breakfast Week (NSBW) during March 7-11, 2022. This year’s theme is “Take Off with School Breakfast,” reminding the entire school community that school breakfast provides a healthy and energizing start to the day for students.

Resources from the School Nutrition Association include Marketing and PR Resources and a  comprehensive tool kit that can be found on the SNA website which provide materials for use with students, parents, administrators, and the media.

Busy weekday mornings make it a challenge for many families to find time for a healthy breakfast. Fortunately, this year the U.S. Department of Agriculture is allowing all children to receive school breakfast and lunch for free, without an application, so it’s a great time for families to give school breakfast a try. Studies show that students who eat school breakfast are more likely to:

  • Reach higher levels of achievement in reading and math
  • Score higher on standardized tests
  • Have better concentration and memory
  • Be more alert
  • Maintain a healthy weight
